Match report
Dear Slogger's
What a game...!!!...Real nail biting stuff. Better than watching the World Cup!. Our boys did a brilliant job against a strong Ferndale team who were 3rd in their league. I think it's probably the best match we've seem so far this season?.
The match started off with Ferndale putting one past Gavin in the first 5 minutes. Coach Pont and Woods weren't having anymore of that, and promptly spent the rest of the game standing either side of the goal looking menacing and threatening Gavin with a head shave if he didn't save everything else. It worked as Gavin saved everything that Ferndale then fired at him. After Ferndale scored the first goal our boys kept their heads up and played like professionals, working up front, ‘Steady Eddie, ‘Paddy’ and ‘Shorty’ had several chances. ‘Steady took full advantage of one o level the scores at 1-1 at half time.
In midfield ‘Chopper’, ‘Bandit & ‘Tank’ all played brilliantly and gave Ferndale the run-around the whole game with some excellent passes and tackles. Playing in defence, ‘Mustard’ and ‘Pont’ put up a brick wall for the opposition and really made Ferndale work to get anywhere.
The second half was as gripping as the first, and at the end of normal time with the scores still at 1-1, the boys had to play another 5 minutes each way. At the end of this and again with the scores still level, it was now down to penalties. The boys took it in there stride and organised themselves as to who was taking them, with the side-line looking nervous as hell and praying their boy didn’t have to take one. The tension was too much for some, Jill couldn’t watch and disappeared mumbling something about phoning Mike to see he was getting on with the washing and ironing.
First up was ‘Tank’ who put it past their goalie even before he had a chance to move…Second up was ‘Chopper’ who managed to get so much spin on it, that even when the goalie got a hand to it, he dropped it and it span in…well done ‘Chopper’…very slick. Third up was ‘Paddy’ who sneaked it past while the goalie was still recovering from ‘Choppers’ goal…Next up was ‘Steady’, need we say more. ‘Bandit’ would have been up next had it not been for the brilliant job coaches Pont & Wood’s had done on poor Gavin who saved 2 of Ferndale’s penalties…well done Gav.
The coaches decided that all the boys had played an outstanding game and it would have been unfair to award the ‘Man Of The Match Medal’ to an individual player, so they decided that should go the whole team instead. Good decision coaches.
