| Dear Slogger's,
Well what can I say - An excellent solid performance for the entire team!. Way to go boys and girl! We turned up at Sherston on a wet Sunday morning, with 9 players. Both coaches agreed on an 8 aside match - leaving us with just one sub - so the whole team had to run their socks off - and run their socks off they did!. From the word go, the Cubs commanded the match with excellent passing and particularly good tackling and through balls from the mid-field. Our first 2 goals came from splendid through balls to Roberto who actually placed the balls in the back of the net (not a volley in sight!). Imo and James almost scored on a couple of occasions with probing runs from mid-field, only to be repelled by the goal posts! It has to be said that our midfielders, particularly Callum, Imo and Louis were boundless in their enthusiasm and didn't miss an opportunity to tackle and pass through to our wing man JP - who had some excellent runs. In the second half the next goal was scored by the irrepressible Louis, who latched on to a ball pushed though from midfield and skilfully placed it to the right of the oncoming goalie. Our defenders were doing a sterling job - Ben with his well timed tackling, Bradley with his superb throw-ins and Will with his 'no-one's getting past me' attitude. Rob then scored another, by which time Joe had had enough! He declared his boredom in the goal mouth and urged coach to grant him his freedom. When the next corner came, Joe was granted his wish and was released from goal, arriving unexpectedly at the far post, where he proceeded to stab the ball in the back of the net. Shocked faces all round and cheers from the team - where did he come from? Final goal from Roberto making a well deserved 6-0 win. Malmesbury put up a good fight and didn't give up from start to finish - they should be congratulated on their determination, enthusiasm and good sportsmanship. Malmesbury parents awarded a well-chuffed Roberto 'Man of the Match'. Thanks lads and lass - it was a good morning's football. Trainee Coach Hares |
