| Dear Slogger's Didn't the boys do us proud ……4-0…… it's times like these when all the hard work and effort everybody is putting in, pays off and it's nice to see smiles all round! The first 10 minutes of the match started off with Highworth all over us and I thought it was going to be a repeat of last week, but with Gavin in goal and Tank and Pont in defence, they couldn't get through. Gavin, breakdancing in the goal mouth, was expecting the ball coming his way any minute, but the defence was too strong for the opposition. Tank & Pont, working alongside Bandit (Josh) and Shorty (Louie) showed Highworth they weren't going out without a fight, and 10 minutes into the first half, 'Steady', working up front with Pete, scored a magnificent goal which sent the oppositions' heads sinking. We were all over them now and 'Steady' went on to score another goal 5 minutes before half time, giving us a 2-0 lead, much to the pleasure of Coach Pont who was grinning from ear to ear - which isn't very often, and not to be missed! Jim and Roberto were brought on in the second half and the onslaught continued. Highworth, now demoralised, gave us several opportunities: Pete grabbed one and scored an excellent goal making it 3-0. Tank grabbed another, but I'm not sure who scored, as Tank had the shot, but Jim touched the ball either before or after it went over the line?!? Either way, it was a great goal and most would agreed - when Reece hits that ball, everything just becomes a blur! Roberto playing mid-field was playing an exceptional game, and I was sure any minute he was going to put one in the net, but sadly he didn't. Rob - do you know the next goal you score - your mum and dad are taking you to Toys R Us and buying you any toy you want! That's what they told me …..honest! Man of the Match went to Tank, who played a great game and put in a fine performance. He kept the opposition at bay and cleared the ball like he's cleared all my flower beds and fence panels in my garden! Well done Reece. All the boys played well and the hard work they are putting in is paying off. Could I set the record straight and squash the rumours going around about the 'Wood' clan. The reason they didn't attend the last match wasn't because the F.A. banned them from attending matches due to unacceptable behaviour! It's because Bassett were playing at the same time we were and they wanted to go and give some encouragement! This Sunday we play Swindon Badgers in a league match, so let's hope it's smiles all round again. Well Done boys. Roving Reporter Bill Fail |
