| Dear Slogger's,
We all turned up bright and early at Lydiard Park to discover that there were no goals! We had two options: play the game without goals - then we should at least get a nil-nil draw or else get someone to go back to Purton for our set. Steve Ponting kindly volunteered to make the journey 'post' haste back to Purton with 'goal' of collecting them! Luckily the 'net' result was that the goals arrived before the opposition could get cross about the lack of bars! Speaking of bars - Steve deserves a drink for his devotion to duty! The game started. We nearly scored from a good corner from Will and then Ben volleyed a clearance so hard against his own corner flag, that he knocked it out of the ground. With this sort of power he ought to try shots at goal whenever he can!. Louis was involved in everything, he was in perpetual motion and he never stopped running. Gavin kept us in the game in the first half with two good saves and Reece put in a very good defensive header. Gavin then dived full length and pushed the ball against the post. We got through to half time at nil-nil with some excellent defending and Joe and Louis both nearly scored with good shots. In the second half, Chopper came on for Imogen who had worked really hard and Bradley came on for Joe who had to leave to go swimming. Joe had gone to great lengths to score without diving at all!. Louis played a lovely pass down the right hand side for Will, who expertly placed it across the Goalie inside the left hand post. Chopper then hit a good shot which hit the opposition Goalie straight in the face. The lad's mum shouted out that Chopper should be sent off for hurting her son, even though it was a total accident. Malcolm, who had been a very calm, diligent referee throughout even told her to shut up! Greemeadow then equalized from a good lob from the right hand side and it had to be a good goal to beat Gavin. Imogen came on for Will for the last 5 minutes and the game ended up a well deserved 1-1 draw. In a good all round team performance, Reece was chosen as Man of the Match by the Greenmeadow Manager for a sterling defensive performance. Well done team. John Goran Wood |
