| Dear Slogger's,
The first match of the season got off to a cracking start with the boys winning 5-1 against Highworth Town South. The boys really looked the business in their new kits and put in the performance to prove it. 'Tommy Franks' Malcolm trained the boys well and showed the other team his shock & awe tactics. When I saw the opposition I commented to Coach Ponting how small the other players looked and I said, I think we've got this .... don't count on it was his reply, they've go a lot of ball skill's .... well ... the only ball skill's I saw were them collecting it from the back of their net!! They also had a player who spent half his time practicing the move from the final scene from the film The Karate Kid (see photo). Coach Ponting also did his fatherly bit by feeling sorry for the opposition in the second half, by giving away a throw-in to them when the ref wasn't sure who it came off! Sadly for Steve he won't be able to make any more matches, as he has to take Hannah dancing!! Man of the match proved to be 'Steady' Eddie, who managed to score all 5 goals. He had a hat-trick in the first half and as a result Malcolm subbed him! (who shouted sack the Manager?) Reece the 'Tank' started the second half and had some great power shots which had the goal posts bending and the goalie shaking in his boots .... But he just couldn't put the ball in the net. Callum was subbed midway through the second half after playing an outstanding game up front. Eddie was brought back on (OK Malcolm we'll give you another chance) .... Eddie managed another 2 goals, 1 of which came off his arm from a shot from Reece ... Eddie's arm is now in plaster and his parents are thinking of sending Jenny the hospital bills! Mid-field and defence proved to be a brick wall for the opposition as they only managed to put one past Gavin, who probably only had half a dozen touches of the ball throughout the whole match! .... much to the relief of Mike and Jill who looked very tired and mumbled something about the stress of having their son in goal and not being able to sleep the night before!! James put in some fancy footwork with the ball (not sure what he was doing though, but it looked good?) he managed a couple of good shots towards the end of the game but never managed to hit the target. Russ, Chopper, Robert and Josh all had a brilliant game with some excellent tackles and passes and all ran like their parents when it's last orders at the bar! All the boys put in a magnificent performance and worked as a team and as a result won. Let's hope it continues. Well done boys. Roving Reporter Bill Fail |
